Co-POWeR Virtual Launch Event

Date
Date
Wednesday 30 June 2021, 14:00-16:00
Location
Online, via Zoom

There are two viruses affecting people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities across the UK. One is COVID-19, and the other is discrimination. We want to highlight that COVID-19 is exacerbating the experience of inequality for those in these communities.

Co-POWeR research will explore the combined impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and racial discrimination on well-being and resilience and aim to establish a fuller understanding of the experiences and abilities of BAME communities.

This interlinked research will explore:

  • the interaction of care, caring and carers within BAME families and communities;
  • the impact of government emergency powers on well-being and resilience;
  • improving resilience and well-being to tackle underlying health conditions;
  • the empowerment of BAME families and communities.

Using their findings, the Co-POWeR team will make recommendations to policymakers on the interventions needed to support BAME groups, and work with documentary filmmakers and theatre arts specialists to develop non-fiction and fiction outputs for the wider public.
