Dr Shahnaz Akhter is a postdoctoral researcher and widening participation officer at the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, where she co-founded and coordinates the Colonial Hangover project.

Her current research focuses on Muslim women in the UK, examining the way in which they are marginalised using virtual reality, and the arts and history, for which she was awarded an ESRC Impact Innovation Fellowship.

Her PhD focused on Muslim group identity using securitisation theory.
